Bartosz Firlik, Associate Professor <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DESTINATE project looked to develop new tools and methodologies for simulating railway noise and analysing the costs and benefits of external and internal noise abatement measures in railway vehicles. Structural and airborne sources were characterised in order to accurately predict the noise level, which constituted input data for simulation models for predicting noise levels. The calculated internal and external noise levels were auralised and visualised to evaluate the quality of sound and acoustic comfort, as well as the usefulness of possible technologies at the vehicle design stage. This way, human perception can be taken into account already at the design stage of the acoustic conditions of the vehicle and can also influence decisions on the costs of various design options, which constitutes a\u00a0crucial project parameter. Bartosz Firlik, Associate Professor<br><br>The main aim of the project was the development of technology making it possible to reduce the cost of tramway operation by putting an innovative universal wheel into use. The project results are intended for entities using urban rolling stock, regardless of their size, the number of tramways in operation, wheel types, pace of rolling stock renovation, configuration of the rail network, and the complexity of technical equipment. The mode of implementation takes into account the wheel renovation method and the wheel type chosen by the user. The project made it possible to reduce the cost of tramway repairs within the area of running gear components, decrease the diversity of spare part assortment, and unify materials and the spare parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>\u201cIdentification and modelling of non-linear phenomena in the contact area of the friction lining with the brake disc of a railway vehicle in the context of stabilizing the instantaneous coefficient of friction\u201d<\/strong> <\/strong>(LIDER\/022\/359\/L-5\/13\/NCBR\/2014), financed by the National Centre for Research and Development under the LIDER programme (support for the development of academic staff, in particular enhancing their competencies in planning and managing research on their own, as well as Wojciech Sawczuk<br><br>The primary scientific goal of the project was the identification and modelling of major non-linear phenomena taking place in the contact area of the brake pad with the brake disc. The project involved research in the following fields:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Contact mechanics (pressure distribution of the &nbsp;between brake pad and the brake disk).<\/li><li>Material research (an attempt to slightly improve the characteristics of the current friction pair combination).<\/li><li>Tribology (the key to understanding the phenomena occurring in the contact area of the brake disk and brake pad pair).<\/li><li>Dynamics (behaviour of the lever mechanism with the brake pad installed).<\/li><li>Noise (analysed with respect to the mechanism of its generation and propagation into the environment or vehicle interior when the brake is operating).<\/li><li>Vibration (a phenomenon preceding the generated noise).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The project gave rise to two patents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>P.418361<\/strong> <em>Tarcza hamulcowa<\/em> [Brake disk]. Bartosz Firlik, Associate Professor<br><br>The aim of the project was to optimise the tramway wheel profile to decrease the dynamic effect of the wheel on the track, decrease wheel and track wear, and improve the running characteristics of the vehicle (comfort of travel and safety against derailment, among others). The project comprised both in-service tests aiming to identify non-linear phenomena between the wheel and the rail, as well as numerical analyses of the vehicle\u2019s dynamic behaviour on a worn track \u2013 with the use of non-linear mathematical models. The project was completed in October 2017, and the obtained results were presented during a number of conferences, as well as railway and urban rail transport specialist meetings, both abroad and in Poland. Jerzy Kwa\u015bnikowski<br><br>The goal of the project was to design, create a prototype of, carry out comprehensive implementation research, and put into production a new type of tramway driving bogie, type MT-03H\/1000, for the 1,000 mm track width, for tramway types 105N and 805N, currently under modernisation in Poland. Aside from the typical secondary suspension, the new bogie design featured a primary suspension, innovative in terms of its functionality. This made it possible to decrease the dynamic load of the bogie and reduce forces in the contact area of the wheel and the rail, which increased the ride safety and passenger comfort, and reduced noise emission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cFeasibility analysis of the application of vibroacoustic processes for evaluating the condition of friction elements of the railway disc brake\u201d<\/strong> (N N504 644840), financed by the National Science Centre.<br><br>Project duration: 2011-2014<br>Project manager: dr hab. in\u017c.
